She was singer performer designer and broke barriers in the industry of music. She was an Mexican American singer who was traditional yet modern. She brought together both worlds and brought Tejano music into the mainstream. Like many times when an incredibly bright and genial star passes away way too soon, her untimely demise shattered her growing profile. People mourned the entire extent of its untapped potential. To stop her achievements from becoming forgotten, many fans over these past few years have been motivated to achieve more. Selena's tragic death by shooting provoked a response from the Latino community that was similar to reactions following the deaths of Elvis Presley or John Lennon. The singer was extremely popular in Latino communities across North America her music crossed cultural boundaries to touch the lives of children as well as old. Selena was a sexy, flamboyant performer on stage and was often known as her as the Latina Madonna. In her off-stage life, Selena was also an excellent role model since she was active in anti-drug and AIDS campaigns.
